Fly Again

He laughed

when she asked for space

then he ate

the power he stole

giving him wings

so he could join

the militant flock of birds

that don’t deserve to fly

Their feathers are swords

raining down

staking us to the ground

They think they have us trapped

until we cut off our clothes

and tear off our skin

Blood is our river

We’ll hide and swim

and one day

we will fly again

Women are amazing, strong, resilient beings. We exist under less than equal standing, and in some regions, in horrifying conditions of inequality and abuse, and still, we manage to find ways to survive and support one another. We will not be silenced.
