No Kings

They came at night

and hollowed out the trees

then told us what our damaged forest needed

Messages broadcast through empty shells masquerading as

the heart of the land

polluted the water and some minds

But the wind, she collected

the outrage

the broken dreams

and the agony of every being

that the hollow shell of the wannabe king

tried to silence

The wind screamed

“We will not bow to kings”

Each of us a became a raindrop in the storm that tore down

the emperor’s gold-plated castle
